As part of a social responsibility initiative, Çağ University organized an engaging Global Warming Awareness Session for middle school students at its Virtual Reality Laboratory (VR Lab).
During the event, students explored metaverse environments that simulate the real-world effects of climate change—including melting glaciers, drought zones, rising sea levels, and deforestation. This immersive experience allowed them to develop a deeper understanding of environmental challenges through interactive learning.
In the first part of the session, students shared their thoughts and reactions to what they witnessed in the virtual world. One student highlighted the devastating impact of plastic waste on marine life, noting how animals can become trapped and harmed by litter left on the shore. This sparked meaningful group discussions on individual responsibility and the importance of protecting nature. In the second part, students wore VR headsets to watch the 360° video Sea of Island, which vividly illustrated how global warming affects marine ecosystems—such as the loss of coral reefs, disappearing habitats, and rising ocean temperatures.
This social responsibility project not only raised awareness about climate change but also showcased how virtual reality can be an effective tool in environmental education. The experience helped students connect with urgent global issues in a memorable and impactful way.
